FEDA Women’s Council issued a statement to mark the anniversary of the murdered Kurdish women revolutionaries in Silopi and Paris, and said that dictators and accomplices should be brought to justice in international criminal courts.
The Democratic Alevi Federation (FEDA) Women’s Council issued a statement to pay tribute to the Kurdish women revolutionaries Sakine Cansız, Fidan Doğan, Leyla Şaylemez who were murdered in Paris, on 9 January 2013 and Fatma Uyar, Sêvê Demir and Pakize Nayır who were murdered in Silopi on 5 January 2016.
The statement pointed out that the massacres are not the “fate of women” and added: “Just as we have been with the oppressed and murdered people throughout history, today once again we stand up for Sakine Cansız, Fidan Doğan and Leyla Şaylemez, who were murdered in Paris, and Sêvê Demir, Fatma Uyar, who were murdered in Silopi. We will continue to be in the streets for all women murdered. Although it is the responsibility of women from all sectors of society and life to question and prevent women from massacres, it concerns us, Alevi women, most.”
The statement continued: “The question of why it targets and murders women the most should be answered by us Alevi people, before anyone else. We are at the target of the system because it is the woman who keeps the values left to us by the mother and passes on to future generations. Since she is the woman who transmits her mother tongue, identity, culture and belief, they want to break the chain of historical truth by murdering the mother.”
Reminding of the killings and atrocities against Yazidi women carried out by ISIS mercenaries supported by the Turkish state, the statement ended with these remarks: “Turkish-backed barbarian ISIS mercenaries sold and murdered Yazidi women in slave markets. Feda Women’s Assembly support the ‘100 Reasons to prosecute the dictator’ campaign and petition promoted by the Kurdish Women’s Movement. We want dictators and accomplices to be brought to justice in international criminal courts.”
