She lost her life after a hand grenade was thrown at her house by the Euphrates Shield factions as a result of her refusal to empty her house for jihadist settlers housing in her place. The Euphrates Shield Operation was the first military occupation operation on Syrian territory, in which the IS handed over Cerablus and al-Bab to Turkey. The main objective of this operation was to prevent the connection between the cantons of Afrin and Kobanê.
